Hi to everyone again, i can’t believe how fast the year has gone, and apologies for such a break between newsletters. Firstly i would like to bring you up to speed with our committee members who were elected at our annual AGM held recently. John Flieter [Hen] has taken on secretary duties, Col Sinclair is treasurer, Greg Wilkins stays on as vice president and myself as president. A huge thank you to Keith Owen [treasurer] and Jason Bartholomew[secretary] whom have given great service in the last 12 months. We are hoping the weather will be in our favour when we again try and run our junior ride day to be held on Sunday October 12th to be held at Kidaman Creek Road. We have capped this ride at 50 kids so please pre-nominate by letting the blokes at Maleny Motorcycles know, also if any of the mums want a ride please bring your bike and gear along. See flyer on our website for more info. We had to call off the ride on June 19th at the last moment due to rain [access road is dry weather only] and unfortunately a glitch with our website meant we couldn’t put up a cancelled notice. Hopefully we have that sorted now. Please, this is only for school kids.
Col Sinclair recently put on a muscle car show at the Maleny show grounds in aid of prostrate cancer and was a great success for its first run and will only get better for next year. ’on ya Col. Also our club sponsored the trials display at the Maleny show with demo shows in the smaller arena with the audience right up beside the display and also an evening display in the main arena. Once again Ross Hopper with the help of brother Keith came to our recue with shipping containers, a car and a crane combined with Gators design skill and help from club members to make it all work.
At our August meeting we looked into a club day at a trials facility that has just kicked off in Brissy and want to set a date and numbers so if you or someone you know would be interested let us know or even better come to a meeting. The time and venue is the same as the last nine years [first wednesday of the month, 7.30pm at the witta rec club]. The club would like to see you there and get a bit of fresh imput. Some suggestions to make it more interesting are free beer, wet t-shirt contest, mud wrestling and cheap air flights.
Memberships are up for renewal and fees will remain the same. We are still trying to get a reg’d and licensed ride happening and hopefully we can make this happen eventually.
The club recently donated some funds to Dorothy Roderick [the family farm where we run our trail rides from] to help with the rebuilding of her house which was badly damaged by land slips from the big wet earlier this year.
Hope to see you soon
Damien
Happy New Year to all and hope you had a safe and happy Christmas. Our first meeting for 2011 will be on Wednesday, 2nd February at the Witta Recreational Club with a 7.30 start. It would be great to see you there to discuss what our Club is going to do this year and for you to have some input. Hope everyone and their families were OK during the recent widespread floods.
If anyone has Juniors starting competition in whatever discipline and needs some coaching for their licenses you can give Kelly Nash (Secretary of S/Coast Motorcycle Club) a call on Ph 54944959 and she will only be too glad to help you.
Good luck for everyone in competitions for 2011.
If anyone is interested in doing the Trail Boss course run by Motorcycle Queensland let me know as we only have Rob Pollock who can do this. It would be good for others to step-up and help so maybe Rob can have a ride instead of having to be an official. The Course is free.
For people who maybe still interested in getting photos of our 2010 Trail Ride please check the front page slideshow and follow the link to find the Hinterland Photo Clu's details or send us a message on the Contact Us link. Thanks to Wilko and Michael for the new look website which will be updated as we go, it looks great.
To finish off, a big rap for the Meneely Family with Ian taking 1st outright in the SE Queensland Yamaha and Suzuki Series for 2010 in the over 45 Clubman Class as well as 3rd in the Honda Pony Xpress. Lena Meneely went one better with 1st in the Yamaha and Suzuki Series and 2nd in Pony Xpress in Junior Girls.
Ryan Cox placed 3rd in the Suzuki Series in Clubman Class 250cc and Joe Cole 3rd in Pony Xpress Juniors 250cc. Great results for such a small club.
Hope to see you at the meeting on 2nd February, 7.30 sharp.
Hi to all Club Members and Site Visitors,
Firstly a huge "Thank-you" to everyone who helped out at our 2010 Trail Ride.
Conditions on Saturday were close to perfect with all riders seeming to have a ball.
Unfortunately the bad weather that had been forecast all week prior came in on Saturday night and didn't stop.
It was an extremely hard decision to call off the Sunday ride. After conferring with the SES, weather maps, our Trail Boss, and a couple of our Sweep Scouts, as well as having no access for Ambulance Vehicles, we were left with no other option.
The response from the riders when this decision was made was just awesome, and I can't thank the riders enough for their understanding of the situation.
This year the Maleny Photo Club came along and took some great photos. Links are provided on our Website. There is a photo of almost every open rider.
Once again we received great comments on how well the ride was run, terrific food, friendly workers, and a great raffle.
Also the campers once again were on the whole fantastic with their behaviour.
Word has filtered through about the possible sale of two farms that we access and this may cause major problems for us. We are fortunate to have been able to use this area for the last 6 years. For this we thank our Land Owners.
The amount that we have raised is somewhere in the vicinity of $20,000, which will be divided up between our community Schools, Clubs and Associations.
Our Land Owners Barbeque will take place at the Witta Recreation Club on Saturday, 30 October from 2.00pm.
Once again, Thank-You, to everyone who helped in anyway to make the 2010 Trail Ride possible.
Damien Cole
President.
We ran the linville trail ride last weekend - there is a video of the ride on Dirt Bike World - Check the video out above. We have had some good feed back thank you, glad you had a good time. Also about the dick heads in the night, we didn't hear them up at the bar so if that happens at a ride we need to know even if it's in the morning. Thanks again...
